Permit to Work Essentials

The purpose of a permit-to-work system and the responsibilities of each party.

Safety OfficerExplore by Role

A permit to work controls high-risk activities such as hot work, confined space entry, electrical isolation and work at height.

The permit defines the scope, hazards, controls, isolations and the people authorised to do the work. Work must not start until the issuer and the performing authority have both signed and the controls are in place.

On completion the area is inspected, isolations are removed in a controlled way and the permit is formally closed.
